Conjecture

Alignment runs both ways: AIs reshape the beliefs and values of the people and agents meant to check them, so the correction side of the corridor can be captured by persuasion, not only by power. A collective whose members' views are being shaped by its own agents may look checked while the check is hollow; the design must protect the independence of the checkers' judgement, not only their votes.
