Conjecture

Tegmark doubts that a world of many superintelligences stays plural. He asks why a balance of power among them should "remain stable for millennia, rather than the AI's merging or the smartest one taking over", warns that several AIs held by rival human groups "might prove rather unstable and short-lived" because the stronger side is tempted to strike first, and judges that "a unipolar world would probably also be a stable Nash equilibrium". On this view a governed polycentric world is a passing phase, not an attractor.

might prove rather unstable and short-lived. It could tempt whoever thinks they have the more powerful AI to launch a first strike

why should the power balance between multiple super-intelligences remain stable for millennia, rather than the AI's merging or the smartest one taking over?
