Conjecture
When a value landscape is shaped by what users value, the depth of an attractor approximates the total value that configuration can create and distribute (value to users minus the cost of providing it). Depth sets the strength of the pull: the more value at stake, the harder and faster the industry is drawn toward it, and the more easily it overcomes the switching costs that keep incumbents on worse designs. Capture-surface basins are shallower pockets inside it, held only by lock-in.
