The Noah effect describes abrupt large changes, while the Joseph effect describes temporal dependence; they are distinct features that can coexist in a financial process rather than interchangeable names for volatility.

Two sequences with the same distribution of individual observations can produce different cumulative excursions because their temporal ordering and dependence differ.

Different systems can share a mathematical description of turbulence without sharing their underlying physical or social causes.

A stochastic description of prices does not require that market participants act without causes; it can model aggregate outcomes when their individual causes and anticipations cannot be reconstructed in time for a decision.

Return magnitudes can be dependent across time even when signed returns are uncorrelated, so absence of linear return correlation does not establish independence.

C-HT6GH9NPSG
In a heavy-tailed model such as the Cauchy distribution, adding observations need not make the sample average converge to a stable population mean in the way it does for independent finite-variance observations.

The proposed multifractal research workflow estimates model parameters from observed prices and then generates different synthetic paths with comparable statistical properties, rather than reproducing the historical path point for point.

C-SBZBWQA1AR
The multifractal model of asset returns composes a price process with a nonuniform trading-time process, combining discontinuity-like wild variation and clustered activity rather than merely fitting a single heavy-tailed return distribution.

A loss quantile such as value at risk does not specify the severity of losses beyond that quantile, and a capital assessment that ignores dependence can miss the damage from repeated crises.

C-XQN562H3TB
Self-similar fractals scale equally in each direction, self-affine fractals can scale differently across directions, and multifractals accommodate differing local scaling behavior within one object.

In Mandelbrot illustrative commodity model, extrapolation of a persistent run can drive market prices beyond a gradually changing underlying value, with a discontinuous correction when the run ends.

C-187ZR02M2B
A model can describe the distribution and temporal concentration of return magnitudes without providing a profitable forecast of the direction of future returns.

A stop-loss trigger does not guarantee execution at its trigger price when market prices move beyond that level before an executable trade is available.

C-DMEKGZ200B
In Mandelbrot multifractal modeling, trading time is a nonuniform transformation of clock time that concentrates modeled price variation into turbulent intervals.

C-NT9QK1864X
Stochastic price processes can generate paths that appear to trend or cycle, so visual resemblance to a trading pattern alone does not establish exploitable predictability.

Where the reward for arriving first is large enough and the penalty for arriving second severe enough, no actor can afford unilateral restraint, so a race structure converts individually rational choices into collective recklessness.

C-Q82XSC1YYE
Coordination on artificial intelligence is structurally harder than coordination on a pandemic, because the immediate consequences of development are concentrated benefits while the costs are diffuse, delayed and deniable.
