Conjecture

A cause outlasts its vehicles: careers, products and industries change while the why behind them stays put.

The claim

A cause outlasts the things done to serve it. Careers, products and industries are incidental and can change many times; the cause behind them, on this account, does not. A founder who moved from software to public health, or from travel agencies to land remediation to youth employment, is read as one cause carried through different vehicles. A why derived from a broad, well-grounded diagnosis should be expected to stay put; if that diagnosis is ever shown false, the revision runs through the diagnosis, not through restating the why.
