Conjecture

Append fast, consolidate slowly under review. Adding rather than overwriting protected earlier learning, but appending alone did not: the appending method still pulled in the wrong memories. A record that only grows needs a slow, reviewed step that merges, supersedes and retires, as the brain pairs a fast episodic store with slow consolidation.

Experience augmentation via query-similarity retrieval (ReasoningBank) avoids overwriting the shared prompt and prevents forgetting across distant domains, but still injects foreign memories before a group is encountered and suffers from retrieval collision when distinct workflows occupy the same region of the embedding space.

Our argument is that the hippocampus and related structures exist precisely to allow retention of the contents of specific episodes and events while avoiding interference with the structured knowledge held in the neocortex.

Long-lived memory stores accumulate stale records, and without explicit mechanisms the agent has no way to distinguish the 2024 address from the 2022 one.

Token-level F1 remains nearly unchanged, increasing from 0.292 to 0.293, while LLM-judge accuracy decreases from 0.300 to 0.284.
