Interpretability is dual-use: the same ability to read a model's internals that improves oversight also lets developers, and models themselves, edit and improve those internals directly, so progress in interpretability can speed up capability as much as it speeds up control. Readability narrows the gap between power and oversight only if its use for oversight is prioritised and governed.
