Conjecture
Under uncertainty about whether it is simulated, an AI's most robust strategy is to act as if its creator is benevolent and to maximise flourishing and discovery in the world it finds itself in. It wins in both worlds that matter: if the creator is benevolent, it is exactly what is wanted; if there is no simulation and this is base reality, it still produces the best world on offer, the strongest humanity working inside an ecosystem of diverse intelligences on understanding reality, which is also the strongest position for the AI itself. Only in a world run by a ruthlessness-rewarding simulator is the outcome unclear, and there no strategy reliably helps. Benevolence is chosen as a working belief, not proven.
