Conjecture
The economy produces exactly one thing, and it is order. Hidalgo's definition, which Part I adopts: information is not a thing, it is an arrangement of physical things, physical order, like what distinguishes different shuffles of a deck of cards. Every product from a stone axe to a treadmill embodies a physical order inseparable from its function, so changing the order changes the product. The Ferrari makes it concrete: after the crash the car contains the same atoms and elements, and its structure and therefore its informational content has been radically altered. There is one configuration of those atoms that is a new Ferrari and a great many that are a wrecked one, which is why destroying order destroys value.
