Correctable beats good: no power should outgrow its correction
The claim
No power should outgrow the ability of those it acts on to check and undo it, and this matters more than whether the power means well. A good mind beyond correction is a bet with no recovery; a flawed mind that can still be corrected is a problem in progress. So the first question for any powerful system, a king, a firm, a model or a collective, is not whether its values are right but whether its errors can still be found and reversed, and whether that capacity is growing as fast as its power.
