Conjecture

A stated why turns a gut call one person makes into a test many can apply, and a debate into a discussion.

The claim

A stated why makes a judgement that was only a gut feeling shareable. A gut call can be made by one person only and cannot be explained, so when others disagree it is a debate with no ground. Once the cause is stated, others can check a decision against it, the disagreement becomes a discussion of whether the call fits the cause, and many people can make calls that one person used to make. The case offered: a founder who turned away clients on feel, and could not explain it to a partner until he could say what the firm was for. This is a routing function, at least for decisions about what to accept and refuse.
