The book states the lifestyle-versus-drugs bet in a form no payer could test: it names keto diets and magnesium supplements as more effective than statins and gastric bypass, and names no outcome, no population and no horizon.

there are a number of simple lifestyle interventions that have proven to be extremely effective in treating the underlying problems. However, western medicine continues to prescribe medicine and treatments to treat symptoms rather than focusing on the underlying causes of disease. In this light, we recommend statins or gastric bypass surgery for diabetes instead of intermittent fasting, keto diets or magnesium supplements which scientific studies indicate are more effective. Statins are an especially bad choice as they only delay the onset of symptoms forcing patients to continue increasing their dosages until they lose their effectiveness. They postpone rather than treat the disease.
