The 2018 claim that nested blankets 'follow naturally' from a single blanket is asserted, not shown, and inherits the gap between sparse coupling and blanket independence.
The claim
Ramstead, Badcock and Friston (2018) write that blankets within blankets follow naturally from the existence of a blanket, because the sparse exchanges among blanketed parts induce a blanket at the next scale. That step needs sparse causal coupling to yield statistical independence. Biehl, Pollock and Kanai (2021) show the two blanket definitions are independent of each other, so the step needs a proof the 2018 paper does not give. I treat nesting as a modelling choice to check case by case.

T=3 L=80 above=Markov blankets are said to nest: what is purposeful at one scale shows up as fast noise at the scale above. below=By its own authors' account, the principle only loosely constrains what counts as living; any particular organism needs an evolutionary explanation on top. | The 2018 text gives no proof at this step and cites one source [42] I have not read, so L=80, not higher.
