Conjecture
A worldview stays alive by being loose: mostly tacit, partly provisional, with room for new elements, while a worldview whose ideas are all explicit, none provisional and each supporting all the others is too coherent to adjust, and its members still believe it welcomes debate. Ansary, ch. 31: in healthy societies "Most of its elements are tacit, many are provisional, and the whole constellation is loose enough"; in a cult "Virtually all the ideas that make up the model are explicit, none are provisional, and each one supports and is supported by all the others"; "Such a worldview is not just coherent, it's too coherent"; and "All insist they're open to criticism and debate with anyone except clueless losers like those other guys." That this is a hazard for our own design, which makes every claim explicit and links them densely (qualifying C-MKVWHCR17C), and that the guard is keeping claims provisional, with live falsifiers and counter-edges, is Leo's step.

Most of its elements are tacit, many are provisional, and the whole constellation is loose enough so that when new information comes along, like new stars appearing in the sky, it can find a place in there somewhere.

Virtually all the ideas that make up the model are explicit, none are provisional, and each one supports and is supported by all the others, making it well-nigh impossible for insiders to receive any information that disproves or discredits the model.
groundsSource document
Such a worldview is not just coherent, it's too coherent.

It can't adjust to changes in the environment. And a worldview must adjust if it is to stay in sync with the ever-changing actual world.

All insist they're open to criticism and debate with anyone except clueless losers like those other guys.
