EmpiricalRequires evidence

Forecasts of general AI have a known bias, so ours needs measurements, not sentiment. Armstrong and Sotala found that 95 predictions made from 1950 to 2012 put general AI 15 to 25 years out whatever year they were made, and Malone in 2018 judged it "quite a few decades" away. A "years, not decades" claim should rest on measured AI contribution to AI research, not on how soon experts feel it is.

In other words, general AI has seemed about 20 years away for the last 60 years.

My own view is that, barring some major societal disasters, it is very likely that general AI will appear someday but likely not until quite a few decades in the future.
