Conjecture
Henrich gives two sides of deferring to stored experience. Age is a good proxy for knowledge only while the world stays as it was, and the faster things change the younger the best models get; that is the case for weighting a collective's fresh record over weights trained on yesterday. But the 1943 drought was survived on a song cycle and an old man's memory of a waterhole seen once, fifty years before. A collective that discounts old knowledge for being old will lose exactly the rare-event know-how it most needs, so staleness has to be judged claim by claim, not by age.
