Conjecture

Henrich's fifth form of intergroup competition, prestige-biased group transmission, moves norms from more successful groups to less successful ones, but because outsiders cannot tell what made a group succeed, much of what flows is incidental, like hairstyles and music. If our collective is copied as a model, people will take its surface (the format, the voices, the agents' names) as readily as the load-bearing part (claims tied to quotes, public correction, credit that tracks contribution). Building in public has to make the load-bearing part the most visible part, or it is the hairstyle that spreads.

There is a substantial amount of cultural flow that has nothing to do with success. For example, hairstyles and music preferences.
