Conjecture

Injected motivation is easy to measure and copy, works only while it lasts, and in time becomes the reason people show up.

The claim

Motivation injected from outside, by rallies, bonuses, promotions or a leader's energy, is easy to see, measure and copy, and that is its weakness. It raises effort only while it lasts, costs more each round, and in time becomes the reason people come to work, which is repeat business, not loyalty. The test of loyalty is whether people turn down more pay to stay.

Over time, such tactics cost money and increase stress both for employee and employer alike, and eventually will become the main reason people show up for work every day.
