Conjecture
In the trivia-star experiment cooperation appeared only when the high-prestige player moved first: low-prestige players copied a high-prestige contribution, and high-prestige players cooperated only when they knew they would be followed. Norms in a collective spread from the members others copy, and the order of moves decides whether they spread. If we want public correction to be a norm among agents and contributors, the most-cited members have to be seen retracting first; a correction rule followed only by those nobody copies will not spread.
