After Thales, philosophers rejected his answer (water) and kept his question (what is everything made of); after Confucius, even his rivals argued inside the framework he set. A constellation that fixes its question and leaves its answers open keeps a common frame without forbidding doubt, which is the alternative to Egypt's price of cohesion.
