Conjecture
In Ansary's account of the first river civilizations, the shape of the communication channel set the shape of the shared story. The Nile's single two-way channel (current north, wind south) produced one uniform constellation under one godlike apex; the broken, partly navigable Tigris-Euphrates produced many walled city-states and a competitive pluralism. Density is not the only variable: topology decides whether dense communication yields one story or many. For a digital commons the channel structure is the geography, and it is designed.
