Machines can carry the coordination a crowd cannot. In Zhang's itinerary system the software tracked travel times, activity counts and the traveller's goals and posted to-do items when they were violated, which raised the rate at which uncoordinated Mechanical Turk workers fixed problems. The design lesson: let contributors add pieces freely and have the system check how the pieces fit, rather than asking contributors to coordinate with each other.
