The main damage bad philosophy did in science, Deutsch says, came from splitting a theory into explanationless predictions plus an arbitrary interpretation, which immunises it from criticism. Medicine's version is the surrogate endpoint accepted without an explanation of why moving it improves a life: the prediction (the biomarker moves) is kept, and the explanation is treated as optional.
