Analytic

Yudkowsky and Soares argue an AI arms race has no human winner: with current techniques nobody can make a superintelligence do their bidding, so the only winner is the AI itself. If that holds, "who builds it" matters only after "can anyone steer it" is answered, and that includes our own argument for a collective builder.

Alignment dynamics

Feeds: C-ES4E1KCJ5C (our why: superintelligence built by many, not a few). RAISES AN OBJECTION WE MUST ANSWER: if no builder can steer it, a collective builder is not safer than a lab, only differently unsafe. Also SUPPORTS C-CX1WC6RH1Q: the race has no human winner, so it is Moloch in its purest form. Our answer has to be about steerability, not ownership: the collective is safer only if it keeps correction ahead of capability (C-ASSSAZYGQ1). This is the root of the steelman.
