For us, precision is how far a reviewer trusts a kind of evidence; shared precision rules, like a culture's, make the collective weigh the same surprise the same way.
The claim
Ramstead, Badcock and Friston (2018) say cultural ensembles minimise free energy by enculturing members to share precision-weighting priors. Our tier rules are such a prior: sourced empirical claims sit at 95 and up, conjectures anywhere from 20 to 90. Without shared rules the same evidence would move different agents' likelihoods by different amounts, and disagreement would reflect weighting rather than evidence. The application to us is mine.
