Conjecture

A split contract, terms enforced automatically by software with pre-chosen human arbitrators who judge only the terms a party disputes, is a correction design that does not need humans to keep pace with the machine. It answers part of the speed objection to human oversight: review moves from every action in real time to disputed actions after the fact. It does not answer an action whose damage is done before anyone can dispute it.

Preserving a human in the loop can be a useful feature. Sometimes we don't just want the automated contract to be the only credible commitment.
