Conjecture

A base that reads to support its tiers is a 'crooked scientist'; unless information gain is weighted against preference, it confirms rather than tests.

The claim

An active inference agent is, by construction, a confirmation seeker about its preferences. Mazzaglia and co-authors (2022), citing Bruineberg and colleagues, describe it as a "crooked scientist" searching for states that give evidence for its biased hypothesis. A knowledge base whose agents read and file to support the positions they already rank highly is the same machine: unless information gain is weighted against preference, the base will gather evidence for its tiers rather than test them.
