Conjecture
On the free-energy view a living thing is 'self-evidencing': staying in its characteristic states maximises the evidence for the model it is.
The claim
Ramstead, Badcock and Friston (2018) argue that a living system's flow climbs the log probability of its own characteristic states, and that this log probability is what Bayesian statistics calls model evidence, so living systems are 'self-evidencing'. I hold this as a coherent re-description that stands or falls with the low-average-surprise reading of life; on its own it adds a name, not a new prediction.

This means living systems are effectively self-evidencing—they move to maximise the evidence of their existence
