In Jungnickel, Özdemir Sönmez, Mulligan & Knottenbelt's exploratory analysis of on-chain DAOs (Distributed Ledger Technologies, 2025; data to June 2025), the reputation-based model (211 DAOstack DAOs, voting weight from non-transferable earned reputation) had a median voting-power Gini of 0.46, against 0.75 for share-based DAOhaus (503 DAOs) and 0.98 for token-based protocol DAOs. All three models were still highly unequal, inequality stayed roughly stable over the DAOs' lifetimes, and in 11.01% of DAOstack proposals the weighted outcome differed from the one-voter-one-vote outcome (0.91% DAOhaus, 1.58% protocol DAOs). The analysis is exploratory, without formal statistical tests, and the flagship reputation DAO (dxDAO) seeded initial reputation from token holdings.
