Conjecture
In Ansary's ch. 4, cultures fused where carriers from different networks were made to wait together, not merely where goods passed through. Southeast Asia, where monsoon sailors from several worlds languished for months waiting for the winds to turn, became "one of the world's great pots of culture stew"; each overlapping Eurasian trade web was "its own galaxy of cultural constellations", joined at hubs where traders dealt with traders. Topology has junctions as well as channels, and a shared story forms at junctions with dwell time. For a commons, throughput between communities does not produce a shared story; places where members of different constellations must linger together do.
