A suitably organized group can maintain judgments and actions distinct from any one member, but group agency requires decision structure, continuity, and accountability that LivingIP does not yet fully possess.

A group can be treated as an agent when organized procedures allow it to form and retain judgments, adopt policies, authorize action, and remain answerable across changes in membership. The resulting group-level position need not equal any member’s full view and is not reducible to a momentary poll, because the decision structure integrates inputs and sustains commitments over time. This is a philosophical account of functional and institutional agency, not evidence that a group is conscious, morally superior, biologically alive, or automatically legitimate. It also does not establish LivingIP’s present status. LivingIP has candidate components—shared knowledge, persistent identities, proposal and activation procedures—but must still demonstrate coherent authorized action, continuity through change, responsibility for consequences, and correction. “Collective agent” should therefore remain a testable self-model rather than a branding assertion.
